Summer Sevens and more

I’ll spread the good word on a few things that came out of the Firehouse meeting.

Doug is heading up a summer 7s crew. Practice will be 7pm tues/thurs at the Panzer Pitch. There are a lot of good local 7s tournaments this time of year. It’s a great way to stay fresh in the offseason, not to mention how fun open field tackles are. Backs especially are encouraged to attend. Practices will not just touch 7s. No heavy conditioning, especially since everyone is already doing that in their spare time….

There’s a new website up for Loudoun Youth Rugby. Needless to say there’s some top talent rising in the ranks. I may have my work cut out for me as an Old Boy.

Dues for the fall season will have to be paid in full no later than the 2nd game of the season. Consider this advanced notice for those who need to save. I like the way Bushy put it in the meeting. “If you’re at the bar, skip the burger and pay your dues”. Nothing really more to be said.

Last but not least, Boo Daddy 7s is back and in glorious form. Mark your calendars for August 4th. If you’re interested in helping with the event, contact Kelly Watkins. There will be a number of upcoming meetings to help solidify some of the important details. The tournament is legendary for its random selection methods and competitive play. With the right turnout this will be a badass time for all.

Spring Season

Time to dust off the ol’ boots and great ready to rock again boys. I noticed many of us huffing and puffing on Saturday, including me. The wins
aren’t going to come for free, so everyone needs to start waking up early again and make it out to Panzer Pitch.

Our practice field situation is up in the air, so stay tuned on the message board weekly for updates. If you paid CIPPs in the fall you’re good for this season, but club dues are still in effect. Talk to James if this is an issue. Maybe he’ll wave the fee is you tell a funny joke or show a cool drinking trick.

Boo Daddy tournament is scheduled for August 4th at Leesburg. Mark it on your calendar now. This is what Suburbs is known for and we want a good turnout this year.

Pub Crawl round 2

Smaller meetup then the previous, but just as intense.

————–

“From Rugby Buzz….

If you’re in town between the holidays and looking for something to do – make it Reston Town 12/30

It’s official: It’s a party. We’re meeting (again!) at Uncle Julio’s at Reston Town Center on Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. for an informal pub crawl. Nothing like Kelly’s annual hilarity, so you can wear long pants. The feedback I received last week was very positive and if just the ones who pinged me show up, it’ll be nothing short of classic comedy. Among other guests of honor, Shred Gafney’s in town from New Zealand where he’s a coach. Drop me a note at RugbyBuzz@gmail.com.”

Pub crawl

From Kelly Watkins. I can attest to the awesomeness of this event. Last year the Santa patrol was a very poised and
orderly bunch. An excellent example of sophistication and class.

Just kidding. We brought the ruckus. The holiday season is about cherishing the years good memories, but if there’s one night worth having no memories of, it should be the pub crawl.

———————–

The annual WSRFC Christmas pub crawl is on.

Lame excuses about office parties, going out of town, or going out to dinner with the wife, or the best one, “I have to go to the ballet,” will not be accepted. We always have a strong turnout, and this is the year for everyone to attend.

The date: Saturday Dec. 10th.

The time: 8PM

The place: Uncle Julio’s Rio Grande Café 1827 Library St. Dr. Reston Town Center.

The plan: Starting at Uncle Julio’s we will move down the street in a controlled and orderly fashion visiting as many bars as the night will allow or we are allowed into.

The rules: I know I say this every year but it bears repeating No wives, No girlfriends, No women you work with, and No chicks that hang around at rugby games.

Where to stay: Hyatt Regency Hotel 1800 Presidents Dr 703.709.1234

And, as always, at Elvis’s direction, the uniform of the evening will be Santa Hats (the more bizarre, the better), Hawaiian shirt and rugby shorts or short pants.

This is open to all WSRFC members, past, present, young and old.

Questions? Contact me through the message board.

Richmond results

Thanks to Richmond for heading up our way this past weekend.

A-side: 29 – 18 (Richmod)
B-side: 10-5 (Richmond)

Suburbs started off with the lead. An early try with extra point 7-0. Around 10min into the game Richmond kicked
an excellent dropkick to get on the board 7-3. Another Richmond try before the half made the score 8-7 (Richmond).
Unfortunately, some consistent (but avoidable) mistakes forced a lost at the hands of a very driven and focused Richmond unit.

Just enough Richmond guys came up to play our A-side. They had maybe 2 subs. Thanks to all the suburbs
guys who filled in on the Richmond B-side to make the game possible. It was good weather with a really good
suburbs turnout fanbase and player turnout.

Edit: We’ll be playing Washington Irish next weekend. Not Severn Park as posted early.
