Team Meeting at P.J. Skidoo's

7 PM May 23rd, 2000

We began a little late at 7:20 due to, well… let's not get nosy about it, okay? If you’re writing a book, leave that chapter out.

There were about 25 players present. Two showed up after the meeting, walked around with beers in their hands and asked, "What happened?" I, for one, refused to answer.

Tom Loesel, our treasurer, got up and said there's about $300 in the treasury right now, which gets us through to fall when we start collecting dues again. He mentioned a PRU bill to fund the select side that we plan to put off paying. (If you’re a PRU select-sider reading this, well, you'll just have to wait for your custom polo shirt.) Citing family issues, Tom also mentioned that he plans to step down as treasurer in August after the summer season, so we will need to replace him. So the call is out: this is an excellent opportunity to serve your club. If you are interested, please contact one of the officers. By the way, Tom mentioned privately that his nipples are doing much better now and thanked us for our concern.

I, Brigham, got up and apologized for the ridiculous delay in the jersey order with Matt Godek. It has now been nine weeks (!) since I placed the order, and I bloody well won't be ordering team jerseys from him again… I also announced that after we're done with the jerseys I will take orders for the black Western Suburbs Boathouse jackets, probably in June. They will be about $80 each. We're still waiting on the IRS to grant our 501(c)(3) status; my hope is that this happens in June. (I sent the amended paperwork in on 10 May.) I stated the need for bylaws to be sent to the Virginia Corporation Commission - we may need to do some amending of them beforehand. I also talked briefly about the possibility of selling our website domain name - "rugbyfootball.com" - to some foreign organization with lots of money. This will have to wait until 501(c)(3) is granted so we don't get raked across the coals tax-wise. I will be issuing a newsletter for the summer season. Finally, I mentioned that the latest website statistics indicate we average about 183 different people looking at our page a day. My goal is to give them something to look at. So get your wives and or girlfriends to… never mind.

Pete Murray got up and rattled off some information regarding the various committees. Unfortunately, I was so entranced I didn't take notes, but a "well-done" was given to David Codd who served as our new developmental coach over the spring. We also thanked the recruiters - Paul Jenkins' name comes to mind - for the great job in getting all those new players out during the season. And, new players, thanks for coming out. It was mentioned that you have given this club a new look and feel. We hope to look and feel at you again in fall.

Fundraising: Ned described the 3 June fundraising effort, which involves selling discount tickets (buy one/get one free for a year) for Papa John's pizza door-to-door in the Ashburn area. The tickets are sold for $10 each, and $5 is retained by the club. This looks like a great way to make money, and details will be sent out via e-mail when I have them.

Elvis rose and went over the schedule for summer and fall. By a vote the members elected to go to the Jersey Shore tournament on 19 August rather than Dewey Beach. The plans to attend the Midnight Sevens in Las Vegas fell through, and we'll put the Second City tournament in Brwn Mawr, PA on the schedule rather than Annapolis. I have amended the schedule accordingly.

An inventory is needed for WSRFC equipment. If you have any of this stuff (tackle bags, generators, etc.) please send me a list of what you've got. My e-mail address is wes.clark@uspto.gov. Oh, thanks for storing it, by the way.

That's about it. I went home and watched a really good French murder mystery, Les Diaboliques.

Respectfully submitted,

Wes "Brigham" Clark

WSRFC Secretary
